Replacing LATIN-1 with UTF-8 Characters in MySQL
If you happened to have migrated content from an older database to a new version, you might have come across some odd characters like — or ’. This was most likely due to the change if charsets of your database/tables. The following code snippet can be used to replace odd characters in your database.

WordPress Slugless Author Pages Cause Static Page Not Found 404 Error
The use of slug-less author page permalinks are not possible without causing 404 errors on static pages. Lets see why:
Normal rewrite rules for author pages:

The 4th line above conflicts with the rewrite rule for pages which appears last in the list of rewrite rules:

This means that any requests for pages are handled as if it was a request for an author page. A static /about page would return 404 because the system could not find an author slug of “about”.

By default, X-Cart 4.4.x does not provide some additional fields that would be very useful to fight fraud. This payment method is great for a secured x-cart store to collect payment information to be used offline instead of being used with a real time payment gateway. However, offline payment methods require a little extra homework from the store owners to ensure that an account it not being used fraudulently. X-Cart Orders Missing because of array_merge() errors
I recently updated my hosting server and broke a client’s site. The client called and said all of their x-cart orders were missing. They were trying to look up old orders and the search was revealing zero results.
The X-cart store version is 3.4.8 Gold running on php 5.2.12. The error was revealed in the error_log for the website as shown below:
